Building the Skills for High Performance
Most top executives in the Retail Industry have a keen intellectual grasp of the critical value of
talent—and the issue of attracting, engaging and retaining the right talent has moved to the top
of the corporate agenda. But how do you attract key talent for your organization? How do you ensure
employees can continue to develop themselves? And how can you acknowledge and reward excellent performers?
A cohesive, high-quality training program can help address these issues. Accenture—in partnership with
Walmart—developed the Retail Supply Chain Certification (RSCC) program, an online training program that
is specifically designed for retailers and their suppliers.
This program—certified by the Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Solutions (VICS) Association—is targeted
at professionals involved in inventory management and replenishment, to give them access to the best
thinking from academic, industry and functional experts. The program sets a standard of professional
excellence and quality, and offers companies a chance to focus on the development of talent.

A Unique Offering
The RSCC content and delivery is powered by Accenture’s Supply Chain Academy, the global leader
in total supply chain knowledge and learning solutions. The RSCC program consists of more than
40 hours of training, drawing from the insights, experience and expertise of numerous supply
chain experts from dozens of institutions. No other training program can offer such broad content
with such extensive depth and global reach.
The content and knowledge for the RSCC program is delivered in a blended learning architecture:
a collection of online learning courses, instructor-led virtual sessions, white papers and links
to thought capital on the Internet. The RSCC program is a completely flexible program that facilitates
the development of deep skills at any time, anywhere, through Internet access. This creates tremendous
flexibility to allow for self-paced training.
Company Benefits
The RSCC program brings numerous benefits to the supply chain organization:
Increase the organizational capability to grow and maintain industry
leadership through consistency in processes and terminology worldwide.
Create a common operating language among planners internally and allow
them to work better with planners externally.
Move the emphasis away from procedural learning (how) to conceptual
learning (why) within organizations and facilitating the 'thinking
outside the box' mentality.
Useinventory, replenishment and forecasting competencies as a market
differentiator to drive competitive advantage.
Attract and retain key talent in your organization by improving job
satisfaction and workforce retention.
How Does It Work?
Participants in the RSCC program will have access to a number of online courses
to prepare for their exams. Courses supporting the certification are broken down
into four modules, containing both core and elective courses. Participants can take
the modules in any order:
- Supply Chain Fundamentals (9.25 core hours)
- Forecasting and Planning (8.5 core hours)
- Inventory Management (14 core hours)
- Metrics and Process Integration (7.5 core hours)
Each module has an accompanying online exam, allowing participants to focus on one module
at a time. This makes it easier for the user to prepare for the exam and encourages
participants to schedule training throughout the year. Participants have two attempts
to score at least 75% in order to pass each exam. RSCC certification will be awarded
once the user successfully passes all four examinations.
"The Retail Supply Chain Certification program offers companies
a chance to give retail forecasting and inventory management professionals the recognition
they deserve once they have reached a specified level of achievement."
Gary Maxwell, Walmart's Senior Vice President, International Supply Chain
In addition to the core training, elective courses in each module round out the
program and provide the opportunity for users to learn more about areas they are
particularly interested in. Core training is recommended and will be tested during the
examinations. Participants will not be tested on the elective courses.
Finally, participants have access to the program for eighteen months, to provide users
with time to take elective courses as desired and further build their knowledge after
completing the core program. Also, it allows participants to use RSCC courses as a source
of reference after they have successfully completed their exam.
"I feel that both VICS and the Supply Chain Academy have a lot in
common, as both are doing ground-breaking work in supply chain. I therefore believe that a
close collaboration between VICS and the SCA can bring many benefits for all parties
involved."
Joseph C. Andraski, President and CEO, VICS
